Turnbull, Thatcher; Arch To The Sky; G; 258 words.

By virtue of his administrative role, Turnbull was aware of the birthdays of the people he worked with. He kept private information private, of course; he was nothing if not trustworthy.

That didn't mean he wouldn't use it privately, however.

Openly gifting Inspector Thatcher with anything was a dubious prospect. The Inspector had an understandable wariness when it came to such things, and the one time Turnbull had sent her flowers anonymously had backfired spectacularly, given attentions from other quarters. Still; on her birthday, he would try.

His art group was useful for more than the occupation of his off-time, occasionally, and the chance to work in other artistic mediums when it came could be quite stimulating. One gentleman had experience in jewelry-making; a delicate discipline, the closest to which Turnbull had ever gotten being childhood grassweaving. He had been grateful to expand the area of experience.

The hair slide was very pretty, if he did say so himself.

It was made of delicate silver wire, wound in a conservative curve and spot-welded in more silver to the slide frame.

There was a precise kind of satisfaction to having seen it come together, and another sort to having wrapped it. Thatcher could be unforgiving of jaunts into her office while she was not present, but he left it on her desk as he cleaned. Unsigned. Anonymous.

He wasn't there for her reaction, and neither did he see her wear the gift, but several days later he found a prim thank you note upon his desk and smiled.

Just lovely. Sweet without sentimentality. Propriety without chill.

Thank you, sweetie. ♥ Things going okay for you?

I aggravated my knee, but it's being doctored. My hair looks fabulous. My boss doesn't seem to realize that I will stab him in the back if it becomes necessary. Once again we spent the week before school in meetings instead of preparing in our classrooms. Fortunately this is my sixth year, so it wasn't a big deal, but it is for the noobs, who should really be given more time to prepare. The Great Purge of 2011 (the attempt to get rid of all the clutter from my house), continues.

What about you?

This debriefing made me smile. :D It sucks about your knee, but your hair tickles me. And I will wholeheartedly support your stabbing should it become necessary. Perhaps I can send you a breadknife.

Not bad. My job's on my feet, which is hard to get used to, but I like it. Tonight I'm a it anxious about my performance today, but I'm still new so I'm hoping it'll be okay. Hoping to move into our own house very soon; it is hopefully imminent.

You'll feel (generally) better once school starts, won't you?

Getting the first week out of the way will be better. The stabbing thing doesn't ever go away, though. I just don't trust him (so few of us do), but I limit my interactions.

I hope things continue to go well for you at work, and that the moving happens soon.

Thank you ♥ I'll keep the breadknife on standby.

I desperately want to sleep but I keep hallucinating things that scare me awake again. And once the dog broke into my room.

Not a friendly dog?

He's fine, just too friendly slamming open my door with his paw just to stare at me at 1 AM. XD

How's today?

I slept late, which is a good thing. I can't exercise because I'm trying to convince the knee to behave itself, which is irritating, but it will probably be too hot to walk outside today anyway. I'm trying to be optimistic about it. My orthopedist thought it was getting better at the end of June and told me that if I kept having problems he would use injections before considering surgery, which makes me confident in his professionalism (although I'm squeamish at the thought of a needle in my knee and I do have to drive two hours to see him, and once it starts snowing I don't leave town to brave the interstate). But I guess i should be happy that i have a job with health insurance. I also get to go home to see the fam in October again, provided it doesn't start snowing that early. This makes me happy because I don't travel during the holidays, and because autumn in Michigan is far more exciting than autumn in Wyoming.

Hope your day goes well <3

Steff's had a few needles to the knee. She says there's a bit of pressure, it's not the most comfortable thing, but it's not horrible and the pain relief was way more than worth it. (Hers were cortisone shots.) ::hugs:: I'm glad to hear they'll try to treat it without surgery.

Oooh, I hope you get to go. I was hoping to do pretty much the same thing in October, but it probably won't happen. Autumn is beautiful-- If you go I hope you take pictures. ♥

Thanks, honey. It's a day off today, so I'm working on commissions and trying to write something too.

That's the second person to praise cortisone shots, which makes me more confident.

It was a big deal for me. The pain relief from RA in that knee lasted over a year. It made the rest of my joints stop aching for a long time, too. It wasn't bad, and it was very fast. A little uncomfortable, nothing agonizing or sharp or horrible, over fast and the relief was stellar.

This was sweet in an understated way, just like Turnbull.

Thanks! :)
